BNP stages protest in Rajshahi
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its other organisations yesterday jointly staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner (DC) protesting violent activities in the educational institutions allegedly by the ruling party's activists and demanding smooth supply of gas, water and power.
The BNP leaders and activists brought out a protest procession from Rajshahi court premises and paraded different streets.
Later, they held a rally in front of DC's office and criticised Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activities across the country.
Speakers said the Awami League-led grand alliance government has failed to control violence, price hike of essentials and ensure people's security.
They also demanded immediate resignation of the government for failure to run the country properly.
Among others, former Rajshahi City Corporation mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu, district BNP president Azizur Rahman, organising secretary Alauddin Ahmed, BNP leader Shafiqul Haque Milon, Kamrul Monir and Shaheen Shawkat addressed.
Our Barisal Correspondent adds: The two factions of Barisal BNP separately staged rallies and brought out processions in the city yesterday while observing the party's countrywide programme.
A faction was led by Advocate Nazrul Islam Khan Rajon, district secretary and Altaf Shikdar, mayor-in-charge of BCC.
The other faction was led by Ahsan Habib Kamal, former city president and former BCC mayor.
