Failing to get back their money, eight depositors occupied land owned by Jubok Housing Society in Dumki upazila of the district on Thursday and Friday.
Of them, Jasim Uddin, Lutfunnesa, Alamgir Hossain, Mezbahuddin, Nazrul Islam Montu and MA Kuddus occupied 0.64 acres of land each at Dumki project on Thursday while Mainul and Shamim occupied 0.14 acres of land each at Sreerampur project on Friday.
The cheated people have already started filling up the occupied land with sand. Alamgir, one of the occupiers, said Jubok official who are now on the run cheated him of Tk 14 lakh in the name of giving a plot at Dumki project.
