Low over Bay
A well-marked low formed over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay moved slightly northwestwards and intensified into a depression yesterday afternoon.
It was centred at 3:00pm about 815 km south-southwest of Chittagong port, 745 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port and 725 km south of Mongla port, said a Met office bulletin.
"It is likely to intensify further and move in a northwest/northerly direction," the bulletin said in its forecast.
Under its influence, "deep convection" is taking place over north Bay. "Squally weather is likely over North Bay and may affect the maritime ports," it cautioned.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kms of the depression centre is about 40 kilometres per hour (kmph), rising to 50 kmph in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain 'moderate' around the centre of the depression.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast, not to venture into deep seas and proceed with caution until further notice.
