People suffer as sale of tickets suspended for 8 hours
Sale of tickets remained suspended for eight hours at Chittagong Railway Station yesterday due to technical glitch at the server of the contractor firm responsible for the station's computer networking system, causing immense suffering to the passengers.
Railway sources said the authorities stopped the sale of tickets at around 9:00am due to a problem in the computer hard disks at the seven counters of the station.
Field Engineer Mafizur Rahman of the contractor firm for computer networking --CNS Limited-- said the main server became inoperative because of the technical glitch.
Hundreds of passengers who gathered for tickets for different destinations faced untold suffering at the station.
Shamsul Huda, a passenger, said he came to collect a ticket for Brahmanbaria in the morning but had to go back without it.
He again came to the station in the afternoon and managed to collect one after waiting in the queue for an hour.
The authorities could provide some 220 tickets for Chandpur- bound Meghna Express without any seat number as the system could be temporarily activated for half an hour at around 2:00pm.
The authorities also issued over 100 hand-written tickets for Dhaka-bound Mohanagar Godhuli.
The sale finally resumed at three out of seven counters at around 5:00pm following resumption of the networking system.
When contacted, Station Manager ATM Golam Mostafa told this correspondent at 6:00pm that the system was still disturbing and they contacted senior engineers of CNS Limited at Dhaka who might arrive by yesterday night.
