Stocks nudge up
Dhaka stocks edged up yesterday, after several sessions of steady trade.
The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSE General Index, rose 32.12 points, or 1.28 percent, to 2,528.17. The DSE All Share Price Index also increased 24.37 points, or 1.17 percent, to 2,104.7.
A price rise in the shares of banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) led yesterday's gain.
Most banks enjoyed healthy gains. Of the biggest advancers, Social Investment Bank rose by 9.8 percent, IFIC Bank by 9.3 percent, One Bank by 8.3 percent, Standard Bank by 6.9 percent and First Security Bank by 6.5 percent.
Almost all NBFIs also gained. United Leasing and LankaBangla Finance increased by 7.4 percent and 6.1 percent respectively.
Advancers beat losers 146 to 92. Ten securities remained unchanged.
A total of 2,18,84,860 shares worth Tk 405.79 crore changed hands on the premier bourse.
Summit Power topped the turnover leaders, with 2,90,750 traded shares worth Tk 39.50 crore, followed by Beximco, Titas Gas, Eastern Housing, LankaBangla Finance, Bextex, AB Bank, S Alam Cold Rolled Steels, Social Investment Bank and Shinepukur Ceramics.
Chittagong stocks also gained yesterday. The CSE Selective Categories Index rose by 85.15 points, or 1.6 percent, to 5,385.65. The CSE All Share Price Index also increased by 124.81 points, or 1.52 percent, to 8,300.83.
A total of 46,66,702 shares worth Tk 62.12 crore changed hands on the Chittagong Stock Exchange. Of the traded scrips, 95 advanced, 60 declined and 12 remained unchanged.
Beximco topped the turnover leaders on the CSE with 3,10,300 traded shares worth Tk 8.55 crore. The day's other turnover leaders were Beximco Pharma, AB Bank, Titas Gas, LankaBangla Finance, Bextex, Beximco Synthetics, Social Investment Bank, Shinepukur Ceramics and Eastern Housing.
