Oil prices drop on profit-taking

World oil prices fell beneath 58 dollars per barrel on Monday as traders took profits from last week's surge that was sparked by optimism about a global economic recovery.
New York's main futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in June, sank 83 cents to 57.80 dollars a barrel. The contract had surged by more than 10 percent in value last week.
