Five injured in Sutrapur clash
At least five people were injured in a clash between locals and cadres of a land grabber over cutting two roadside trees at Sutrapur in the city yesterday.
The injured were identified as Muhammad Alam, 45, his brother Lal Chan, 38, Akbar Hossain, 32, Nadim, 33 and an unidentified woman. They were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and local clinic.
Sutrapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tofazzel Hossain said some sweepers of the sweeper colony attacked locals at RN Das Lane when they protested a move of the sweepers of cutting two trees.
Locals said a local cadre named Dipu with 20 to 25 of people started felling the two trees, which were on a government land. Locals protested the move and then Dipu's men along with some sweepers attacked the locals.
Locals then get engaged in chase and counter chase, which left at least five people injured, local sources said.
