Suspected killer held in Barisal
Nineteen days after the gruesome murder of Malibagh Biggyan College student Zishan, the police arrested a suspected killer from Barisal town on Monday evening.
The arrestee was identified as Alvi Karim, 19, son of Rezaul Karim and a student of Sigma Science and Technology College in the city's Malibagh area.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Ezaz Shafi of Motijheel Police Station, who is also the investigation officer (IO) of the murder case, said they made the arrest according to the confessional statement of another killer Mohammad Raju Ahmed who was arrested on April 15 and tracking the call list of Zishan's cellphone.
Alvi Karim at the DB office told newsmen that Raju used his cellphone to call Zishan to the dormitory of Malibagh Biggyan College at around 6:30pm on April 8 and when Zishan came there they took him to the rooftop.
Raju locked into a quarrel with Zishan there when the former asked Zishan to return the Tk 15000 he had earlier borrowed from Raju.
“At one stage Raju hit Zishan on his head with a bamboo stick as Zishan brought out a knife from his pocket to attack Raju,” he said, adding, “When Zishan fell on the floor, I also beat him with another bamboo stick.”
“We did not want to kill him,” he said, adding that he took shelter at the residence of his maternal aunt at Barisal following the killing.
SI Ezaz said Alvi worked as a model in different fashion shows while Raju performed as a dancer at different hotels in the city's posh areas.
Police recovered the body of AHM Ahsan Nur alias Zishan, son of Sergeant AHM Nurullah of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), from the rooftop of the college dormitory on April 8.
