Valuables, cash money looted in city
A gang of armed robbers committed robberies at five flats, while burglars stole belongings from three flats in the city's Sutrapur area early yesterday.
Sub-Inspector (SI) AK Azad told The Daily Star that a gang of 10 to 12 armed robbers entered the building of Chunnu Mia on KM Das Lane in the area at around 3:30am, while its gate was open.
Entering the houses, they looted 30 tolas of gold, seven cellphone sets, around Tk one lakh and other belongings at gunpoint.
The SI said the robbers wore masks and bore pistols and guns during the incident.
In another incident, a number of burglars stole belongings worth around Tk one lakh from three flats on the first and third floors of a four-storey building in Hatkhola Road area at around 3:00am.
Meanwhile, six members of a family fell unconscious early yesterday after taking milk from a quack who looted belongings from the family at Kamrangirchar.
The victims were identified as Salimuddin Miah, homeowner, his wife Shirin Akhter, 40, sons Abu Hanif, 24, Saddam, 19, and Sahadat, 14, who is mentally impaired, and his mother Sahar Banu, 70.
Shirin said at around 12:30, the quack, who is also a tenant of their house at Jawlahati in the area, asked them to prepare sweetmeats for preparing medicine for Sahadat.
At one stage, he told the family members that he would immerse in mediation after they had taken the sweetmeats. As per instruction, they all ate the sweets and fell unconscious.
At around 11:00am when a relative came to the house, he found all the family members lying unconscious on the floor and lockers broken.
Police said the quack looted gold ornaments and valuables from the lockers.
