UZ chairmen honoured in new law
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad advocate Abdul Hamid yesterday said upazila chairmen have been honoured more by the Upazila Parishad Act passed in the current parliament than the earlier act.
He said if both the lawmaker and the upazila chairman want development in their area there is no reason of conflict between them.
Threat to declare MPs 'persona non grata' in their respective areas is a very bad culture, he said. "Both the MP and the upazila chairman should participate in local development process," he added.
The speaker said this while talking to journalists at Gopalganj Circuit House as he was on his way to Tungipara to offer fateha at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Hamid also said the seats in parliament would be rearranged in the next session. "I will give concession to BNP as far as possible. However, it does not mean that I will give them whatever they want," he said.
