BSF pushes in 34
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) pushed in at least 34 Bangladeshi nationals, who were detained in Indian jail for long, through Bhomra border in Sadar upazila Wednesday night.
The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) jawans arrested 28 of them in the border areas while six others managed to escape, BDR sources said.
Quoting the victims, police said BSF and Indian police detained the Bangladeshis who went to India crossing the border illegally for treatment in 2006 and 2007.
Indian courts convicted the intruders and sentenced them to imprisonment for several terms.
Indian police took the victims from Dum Dum Central Jail and handed them over to Kalyani BSF authorities in the morning of March 25.
Later, BSF authorities handed them over to Ghojadanga BSF camp opposite Bhomra BDR camp in the evening, sources said.
The arrested Bangladeshi nationals alleged that the BSF of Ghojadanga camp tortured them seriously and pushed them forcibly through Bhomra border in the dead of night.
Sadar thana Officer-in-Charge Kamruzzaman said as BDR filed a case, police produced the victims before the court and it sent them to jail yesterday.
When contacted, Deputy Assistant Director Mahbub Rashid of 41 rifles battalion confirmed the incident.
