Theatre Festival resumes in Sylhet
After a gap of three days due to national mourning in the wake of the BDR mutiny and massacre, Theatre Festival resumed at the M. Saifur Rahman Auditorium of the Sylhet city Monday last.
Sammilita Natya Parishad, Sylhet organised the festival in association with the Sylhet City Corporation.
Khowai Theatre of Habiganj staged “Dawal” on Monday while Natya Mancha, Sylhet staged “Kalantor” of Azizus Samad Don Tuesday night.
Manglem Singh Joy, Bappi Mazumder, Mrinal Kanti Das, Mahmud Hasan, Rajat Kanti Gupta, Antara Biswas Opinki, Saptarshi Dev Daina, Anjali Thakri Seeta, Anya Dev Toma, Hossain Ahmed, Subir Paul, Nafij Redwan Shanto, Shams Uddin Ahmed, Md. Hafizur Rahman, Mirajul Islam Emon, Sohel Ahmed, Swapon Barman and Rabiul Islam Chowdhury Raju took the stage for the play on Tuesday. The event drew immense appreciation from the audience although some of the characters needed to be fleshed out.
However, “Ingan Adhar pala” of the Manipuri Theatre, Moulvibazar ,”Khela khela” of Srote Natyadal, Sylhet and that of Udichi Sylhet's “Chokhey Angul Dada” were suspended due to the national mourning. These will be staged later.
Natyaniketan Sylhet was scheduled to stage “Lajja” on March 4 while Sylhet Proscenium presented their production “Sajano Bagan” on March 5. Kathakoli Sylhet is set to stage “Court Martial” on March 7 and on March 8 Natyaloke, Sylhet (Ambarkhana) will stage their production “Boudir Biye”.
