SC Appellate Division gets 2 new judges
Senior most judges of the High Court (HC) Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Justice Md Abdul Aziz have been elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to fill the vacancies.
Law ministry sources said President M Zillur Rahman yesterday made the appointments as per recommendations of the Supreme Judicial Commission and a gazette notification on the appointments will be issued today.
The appointments of the two judges would expedite hearing on the long pending appeal in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman assassination case, according to the sources.
Earlier on October 16 last year, the commission recommended appointment of four judges of the High Court Division as Appellate Division judges. They include Justice Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman, Justice Abdul Aziz, Justice Md Abdul Quddus and Justice Bijan Kumar Das.
Justice Quddus, however, retired from service on January 14.
