BNP ready to help govt

Says Khaleda on facing crisis

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia once again said the opposition is ready to cooperate with the government to overcome the ongoing crisis centring Pilkhana carnage so that it will not hurt the country's democratic process.
During a meeting with US Ambassador James F Moriarty at her Gulshan office last night, the leader of the opposition hoped that the government will be able to utilise US cooperation properly in this regard.
“There was no lack of sincerity on opposition side to assist the government to overcome this tough situation and now it depends on the seriousness of the government,” Shamser Mobin Chowdhruy, foreign affairs adviser to BNP chairperson, quoted her as saying.
About the discussion of the meeting that lasted over one hour, Chowdhury said US wants to see continuation of democratic process in Bangladesh. US also thinks Bangladesh will be able to overcome this critical moment if all work together, he added.
During the discussion, the US ambassador also emphasized the role of parliament and urged all to work together for strengthening the democratic institutions.
When asked about the agenda of the meeting, Moriarty told reporters that this is the most critical time for Bangladesh in its history and opposition has an important role to overcome the situation.
“The US thinks joint efforts of government and opposition can help resolve the crisis,” he said.
