Protest against 'discriminatory' grading system
Hundreds of students of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday formed a human chain in front of the central library demanding immediate cancellation of what they said discriminatory grading system in public examinations.
Participants carried banners and placards in favour of their demand.
Later, a protest meeting was held where speakers urged the government to draw a recruitment policy for all organisations where rights of the general students are protected.
They criticised some banks and multinational companies for recruiting employees according to their new criteria terming Grade Point Average (GPA) 4.5 equivalent to first class, GPA 4.25 as second class and less than GPA 4.25 as third class. A large number of students are being deprived of jobs in this system, they said. They threatened to launch a tougher agitation if their demand is not met immediately.
Later, they brought out a silent procession which paraded the campus.
