12 killed, 998 injured in post poll violence in Feb
Twelve people were reportedly killed and 998 injured in post-election violence in February.
Odhikar, a human rights organisation, revealed this on Sunday at its report on human rights situation in February.
The report said activists of student wing of the ruling party and its supporters were involved in most incidents of violence across the country including educational institutes -- Government Titumir College, Comilla University, Kushtia Government College, Dhaka University, Chittagong University, Sylhet Government College, Rangpur Medical College and Jahangirnagar University.
During January 1 to 28, a total of 26 women and girls reportedly became victims of rape. Among them, 9 were women and 17 were children aged below sixteen. Out of 9 women, 3 were reportedly killed after rape and 3 were victim of gang rape and out of 17 girls one was reportedly killed after rape and 3 were victims of gang rape, the report said.
The report also said a women and a man fell victim to acid violence during the time.
The report also revealed that two people were reportedly killed by law enforcing agencies, among them one was killed by detective branch of police and another by forest guards.
Odhikar also expressed its grave concern over the violence that occurred in the BDR Headquarters between February 25 and 26 and over the cabinet approval of the prevention of terrorism ordinance 2008.
