The three-day US Trade Show 2009 ended yesterday at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel amid low turnout of visitors in the wake of an armed mutiny by border guards in the capital.
Some 5,000 people visited the fair, where 54 companies including Boeing, Coca-Cola, IBM, Microsoft Corporation, Pepsico Inc, Intel Corporation, American Air and Harvard University showcased products and services.
The US Embassy in Dhaka and American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh co-organised the annual event.
R Keith Williamson, regional director of Boeing, said the company received good responses from visitors as it took part in a Bangladeshi fair for the first time and had a chance to interact with local people.
“People came to the fair and showed curiosity about Boeing,” he said.
Munirul Ahsan, general manager of T-Mart Group, the local agent of US cosmetics companies, including Jordana and Nior, said his company logged satisfactory sales despite a limited number of visitors.
An official of Transcom Beverages Ltd, the official franchisee of Pepsi in Bangladesh, said visitors had shown keen interest in its products.
