Many of the sacked 3,000 dock workers along with members of their families joined the fast unto death programme from Wednesday morning on the compound of Mongla Sramik Sangha office to press home five-point demand including their reinstatement and abolition of Management Board ordinance.

Ten of the 30 dockers who fell sick during observance of the programme were admitted to Mongla hospital at 8:00pm on Thursday. Of them, Amjad, 42, and Shamsur Rahman, 48, were shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital the same night as their condition deteriorated, said Mongla upazila Chairman Idris Ali.
