Mobile link with dists cut off for a while
All mobile phone operators have been asked to switch off their networks across the country to save the capital as the BDR mutiny at the headquarters sparked a backlash in many other camps.
In Dhaka, the handy phones will remain inoperative in the Peelkhana area where the BDR headquarters is besieged by belligerent rebels.
However, it could not be confirmed who passed the order to the mobile operators.
On the other hand, PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) operators, however, remained “out of the directives”, sources said.
According to sources, Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission directed the mobile operators to switch off their operations across the country, excluding Dhaka.
A Grameenphone official said, “Mobile services have been kept off nationwide, except for some areas of the capital.”
An unofficial source said that instructions also came from the home ministry for the shutdown of all network communications with the flashpoint, BDR Headquarters at Peelkhana .
