BBC World Debate today
BBC World News in association with the BBC World Service Trust will hold a debate titled 'Are there too many people in the world?' at Lalbagh Fort in the city today.
The World Debate in Bangladesh, which will be recorded on April 25, is scheduled for worldwide broadcast on BBC World News in April 25 (at 1:10pm and 9:10pm) and April 26 (at 01:10am, 06:10am, 1:10pm and 9:10pm).
Neal Dalgleish, producer of The World Debate, said this at a press conference at Hotel Westin yesterday, says a press release.
The debate will take place among a panel of international experts and opinion formers, moderated by BBC World News Today presenter Zeinab Badawi.
The World Debate is one of the premier discussion forums on BBC World News.
The World Debate panel features Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, Rosamund McDougall, policy director of the UK-based Optimum Population Trust, Matthew Connelly, historian, author and professor at Columbia University in New York, Eliya Zulu, director of research at the African Population and Health Research Centre, Nairobi and Wang Shuo, managing editor of the Caijing Magazine based in Beijing.
Neal Dalgleish said bringing The World Debate to Bangladesh, with the support of the BBC World Service Trust, is a significant venture.
“This is the second time we have recorded an edition of the programme in Bangladesh and we envisage that this crucial issue of population will be hotly debated by our panelists,” he said.
Allan Freedman, country director, BBC World Service Trust Bangladesh, said, “Hosting The World Debate from Bangladesh places the region at the forefront of the international dialogue that is currently taking place on population.”
