Fake milk factory unearthed
A factory producing adulterated ghee and milk was unearthed yesterday at Ramnagar village of Sadar upazila Monday night.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided the house of Khokan at about 8:30pm and busted the factory.
They later recovered two maunds of adulterated milk, 30kg substandard powdered milk, three blender machines, two motors and some ghee-making ingredients from it.
The law enforcers arrested house owner's wife Alladi Rani who was preparing the milk but Khokan managed to flee.
On her confessional statement, police recovered two sacks of substandard powdered milk from the shop of Ranjan Kumar in Kaliganj town yesterday noon.
Alladi's son Prosanto told The Daily Star that he supplies 200 to 250 litres of milk every day to Kaliganj Brac office for its Aarong brand milk after mixing Indian powdered milk with it.
Twenty-four other milk sellers supply only 50/ 70 litres of such milk to the office, he claimed.
He also said he buys the Indian powdered milk from the shop of Niranjan, Bikash Mollick, Uzan Mollick and from some women at Kaliganj main bus stand.
When contacted, Jahangir Alam, manager of chilling centre of the Brac office, said, "We can't detect any fault in such milk, supplied by Prosanto as he mixes cream with the milk."
