Four public universities get new VCs
The government yesterday appointed new vice chancellors (VCs) of another four public universities-- Jahangirnagar, Rajshahi, Chittagong and Shahjalal universities--education ministry sources said.
Earlier on Monday, new VCs were appointed for two public universities--National University (NU) and Jagannath University (JNU). And Dhaka University got a new VC last month.
Of the four appointed yesterday, Prof Sharif Enamul Kabir is VC of Jahangirnagar University (JU), Prof Abu Yusuf Alam is VC of Chittagong University (CU), Prof Abdus Sobhan is VC of Rajshahi University (RU)and Dr Gazi Salehuddin is VC of Shahjalal Science and Technology University, Sylhet.
Sharif Enamul, professor of chemistry at the JU, replaces acting VC Muniruzzaman.
Abu Yusuf, professor of Islamic history and culture at the CU, has been appointed VC in place of Dr Badiul Alam.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra League earlier staged demonstrations on the campus demanding Badiul Alam's resignation.
Abdus Sobhan, professor of physics and electronics engineering at the RU, replaced Pro VC Mamunul Keramat who was holding charge of VC.
Gazi Salehuddin, dean of social sciences faculty at the CU, replaces Dr Aminul Islam at Shahjalal University.
On Monday, the government appointed DU history professor Kazi Shahidullah and physics professor Dr Mesbah Uddin Ahmed as VCs of the NU and JNU respectively.
Last month, DU mass communication and journalism professor AAMS Arefin Siddique was appointed VC of the university.
