Hospital vandalised after patient’s death
Locals and relatives of a dead patient vandalised a hospital in the city's Kathalbagan yesterday on allegation of doctors' negligence.
Deceased Abdul Haque, 50, was a resident of a slum adjacent to Padma General Hospital where he was admitted with stomach-ache Sunday night.
He was left without treatment at the hospital till his death around 3:00pm yesterday, his family members alleged.
Feroza Begum, wife of the deceased, said no doctor came to see her husband after his admission. His condition deteriorated after 11:00pm Sunday and the hospital staff told them that no doctor would see him till Monday morning.
Witnesses said after his death the patient's relatives vandalised the counter of the hospital early yesterday. In the evening, locals damaged the operating theatre, windowpanes, manager's chamber, medicine store and an ambulance of the hospital.
Two hospital staff were also injured.
Mafiz Uddin, accounts officer of the hospital, told The Daily Star that the patient was admitted under a surgeon who was supposed to see the patient Monday morning. He said the surgeon gave treatment over cellphone.
