Cricket makes SA Games
Six more disciplines including cricket have been incorporated into the upcoming South Asian (SA) Games.
The under-21 sides will take part in the Twenty20 version of cricket and the other new disciplines are badminton, basketball, judo, volleyball and cycling. The decision was taken at the South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC) meeting at Katmandu yesterday.
With the addition the number of disciplines for the 11th SA Games now stands at 23, three more than the previous meet which was held in Colombo 2006. Among the disciplines handball, golf and cricket are the new sports to be played in the Games for the first time.
President of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) General Moeen U Ahmed presided over the SAOC meeting.
It was also learnt that the meeting has decided to hold the mega South Asian extravaganza from January 29 to February 9, 2010 in Dhaka.
