Six killed in road accidents
Six people, including the Officer-in-Charge of Fulbaria police station in Mymensingh district and a mother and her son, were killed in separate road accidents in Narayanganj and Gopalganj yesterday.
Of the six victims, three were killed in a road accident at Kanchpur in Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj.
Police and witnesses said a Dhaka-bound truck from Chittagong rammed into a rickshaw from behind, killing its passengers Monwar Begum, 45, and her son Biplob, 8, and the rickshaw puller Ainul Haq, 32, on the spot.
The accident occurred at about 8:30am when Monawra along with his son was returning to their slum at Kanchpur Balumat from a local market.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to general hospital for autopsy.
The truck driver managed to flee.
Three others, including the Officer-in-Charge of Fulbaria police station, were killed and four others injured in Gopalganj Sadar upazila when a microbus fell into a roadside ditch near Chandradigolia madrasa on Dhaka-Khulna highway.
The victims are OC Tarapad Sikdar, 47, who was going to Tungipara to perform his duty, his sister-in-law Momota Dutta, 25, and Rajib, 12, a student of Chandradigolia madrasha.
Rajib was standing in front of the madrasa when the accident took place.
The police said the microbus skidded off the road and fell into the ditch at about 1:30pm as its driver lost control over the steering.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. They also seized the vehicle, but its driver managed to escape.
Fisheries secy, three others injured
Fisheries and Livestock Secretary M Shah Alam and three other people were injured as his jeep overturned while trying to save a minor girl near Rupsha Sea Food on Bagerhat-Khulna highway in Bagerhat Sadar upazila yesterday.
The other victims are the secretary's gunman Shad Ahmed, driver Anjan, and Rukaya, a nine-year-old girl of Pikepara village.
The police said the jeep overturned after it hit a roadside tree at about 2:30pm trying to avoid hitting the minor girl.
Rukaya was rushed to Khulana Medical College Hospital in a critical condition while a medical team from the district headquarters rushed to the spot to provide treatment to other injured.
Shah Alam was sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
He was going to the district circuit house to attend a view exchange meeting.
