Sajeda to fill Zillur's shoes
Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury is expected to be the next deputy leader of the House as veteran leader Zillur Rahman is all set to be declared the next president of the country today.
Zillur, also a presidium member of AL, was chosen the deputy leader of the AL Parliamentary Party when the current government came to power. He will quit this position when he goes to the President's Secretariat tomorrow.
ALPP is most likely to pick Sajeda as the next deputy leader of the House.
Highly placed sources told The Daily Star that the prime minister has already gave the green signal for Sajeda to be appointed to the post. Sajeda was the forest and environment minister during AL's last regime.
Meanwhile, a case filed against the former minister by the Anti-Corruption Commission on charges of illegal earnings and concealing wealth is still pending.
The ACC had told reporters at the time that in her wealth statement, Sajeda hid information about Tk 13.75 lakh, which she earned through illegal means.
