Five killed in road accidents
Five people were killed and 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Bogra, Brahmanbaria and Jhenidah in the last two days.
Our staff correspondent in Bogra reports: A head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck killed three home-bound devotees of Biswa Ijtema and injured 15 others on Dhaka-Bogra highway at Jatpur at Raiganj in the district early yesterday.
The dead were identified as Abdul Quddus, 50, Shariful Islam, 55, and Dilip, 38.
Police said the bus carrying devotees of Biswa Ijtema collided with a truck early yesterday, leaving about 18 devotees injured.
The injured were rushed to Bogra Shaheed Zia Medical College Hospital where Quddus, Shariful and Dilip succumbed to their injuries in the evening.
Our correspondent in Brahmanbaria reports: A minor girl was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway near Ashuganj Rail Crossing at Ashuganj in the district yesterday.
The dead was identified as Sumi Akter, 9.
The accident took place when a Dhaka-bound speeding truck knocked her down while she was crossing the road.
The body was sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Police seized the truck but the driver of the truck managed to escape.
Our correspondent in Jhenidah adds: A woman was killed in a road accident on Kaliganj-Jiban Nagar highway in the district on Sunday night.
The accident occurred at around 8:15pm when a motorcycle and a human hauler collided head-on.
The victim was identified as Shapla Rani Roy, 23.
Her husband Chandan Kumar Roy, 32, a manager of Kotchandpur Brac office, was also injured.
