Ctg jute mill workers demand arrears

Agitating workers of a jute mill here yesterday blockaded the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sitakunda to press home their demands for payment of arrears.
Sources said a number of workers of Gul Ahmad Jute Mill put up a barricade in front of the mill gate at Chhoto Kumira under the upazila at around 2:30pm demanding payment of eight weeks' salary arrears.
The workers said the authorities earlier assured them of paying the arrears of the previous seven weeks by yesterday, but they failed to pay the wages which forced them to stage an angry demonstration.
General Manager (GM) of the mill Mosharaf Hossain agreed that they could not pay the arrears within the time limit.
The barricade was removed at around 3:30pm when Sitakunda police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.
