House of Teknaf anti-graft body chief attacked
A gang of criminals attacked the house of Teknaf Upazila Corruption Resistance Committee President Zahed Hossain at Shah Parir Dwip Uttarpara under Sabrang union.
The gang looted valuables worth Tk 3 lakh and beat up Zahed's daughter Rehena Parveen and four others, leaving them injured.
Zahed Hossain, also a retired primary school teacher, alleged that a gang of 15 to 20 criminals came in an open jeep, entered his house and looted valuables, including gold ornaments and a cellphone set.
He said the gang members also beat up his daughter Rehena, her friend Baby Akhter and three others as they tried to resist them.
When contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station said police arrested two of the criminals, Nurul Alam and Mohammad Shafi, and seized the jeep that was used by the criminals.
Zahed filed two separate cases with the police station concerned against 14 people, the OC said.
Locals said the criminals backed by a local Awami League leader swooped on the Zahed's house as he voted for an AL rebel candidate in the recently held upazila election.
