Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged the United States to invest in Bangladesh in larger volume and laid emphasis on more US cooperation in energy and power sectors.
The request came when US Ambassador in Dhaka James F Moriarty called on the prime minister at her office in the morning.
The prime minister informed the US envoy about her government's strong stand on alleviating poverty, the “main enemy” of the South Asian region, and against terrorism.
She also assured the envoy of investment-friendly environment in Bangladesh.
She also hailed the United States for sending poll monitoring team in December 29 election and for its interest in restoring democracy in Bangladesh.
Hasina and Moriarty discussed in details the issues of mutual interest and hoped that the existing friendly relations between the two countries will be strengthened further in the days to come. The US envoy also expressed interest in more investment from his country.
Later, outgoing Australian High Commissioner Douglas Foskett paid a farewell call on the prime minister at her office.
The prime minister thanked the Australian envoy for his country's cooperation to the development of Bangladesh.
