Biman makes emergency landing at ZIA
A Boeing 747 of the country's flag carrier Bangladesh Biman had to make an emergency landing in the first hour of today at Zia International Airport (ZIA) about an hour into its take off, due to malfunctioning of one of its engines.
Chief Security Officer of ZIA Nurul Islam said the plane made the emergency touch down with all passengers unharmed. The flight was destined to Saudi Arabia via Dubai.
ZIA flight operations officials said flight BG035 with 417 passengers on board left for Dubai around 11:30pm.
They said identifying a problem in one of the four engines, the captain of the aircraft shut the engine down and used fire extinguishers to avoid catching a fire from high temperature air leaking from the malfunctioning engine.
The aircraft circled the Dhaka sky for a while and dumped its fuel for an emergency landing.
Meanwhile, several units of firefighters rushed to ZIA with full preparation to tackle any fire.
ZIA officials around 12:45am claimed that the aircraft was almost fixed and would depart soon.
The passengers however were sent to a city hotel after the emergency landing.
Biman leased the plane from Thai Oriental.
