BNP hailed for attending oath-taking ceremony
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam on Thursday hailed the opposition party BNP for attending the oath-taking ceremony of the council of ministers, saying that it is reflective of a positive political culture.
"We don't want to go back to the confrontational politics of the past. We do not want to count the opposition in numbers, but want the quality opposition," he said this at a press conference at the Awami League chief's Dhanmondi office.
Ashraful, also the party spokesperson, urged BNP to join the first session of the parliament and said the opposition is the integral part of politics, saying that the ruling party would like to work together with the opposition.
Replying to a question, he said 21,000 AL leaders and workers were killed during the past BNP-Jamaat rule. The government, he said, would like to bring the persons responsible for the killings to book.
The LGRD minister said the indemnity culture that started soon after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman should come to an end.
