BNP front bodies to be dissolved, revamped: Khaleda
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said all committees of BNP and associate organisations would be dissolved and revamped through elections.
She also appealed to her party rank and file not to lose heart.
The former prime minister said BNP will join parliament to speak for the people. "People want to buy rice at Tk 10; they want fertiliser for free and job for one from each family.
“We want to see implementation of all the pledges Awami League made before the election. But they have already started denying making those [promises]."
The BNP chief made the remarks campaigning at Sonaimuri and Chatkhil in Noakhali and speaking at a view-exchange meeting with party men in Comilla.
At polls rallies, she introduced Mahbubuddin Khokan as BNP nominee in the January 12 election to Noakhali-1 constituency and sought vote for him.
She again alleged massive rigging in the December 29 general election.
She said people voted BNP, but the result was changed in favour of another party and alliance. Even the voter roll has been 'tampered with'.
Earlier, addressing party leaders and workers at Comilla Circuit House, she said, “Don't get frustrated. Keep working together. Committees of BNP and associate bodies down to the grassroots level will be disbanded and rebuilt through elections.”
Canvassing at Noakhali-1, Khaleda said, "The caretaker government worked for a particular party, and the four-party alliance was forcibly defeated in the polls. In last two years, they [caretaker administration] tortured people, so much so that everyone wanted to get rid of them."
She warned the Election Commission and the administration against rigging in the January 12 vote. “At least hold this election in a free and fair manner. Otherwise, people will wage a movement against the commission.”
She said her party would cooperate with the new government so that it can fulfil its pledges.
"We want peace, discipline and development. But we won't tolerate any anti-people activities," she continued.
The BNP chairperson accused the AL government of persecuting her party men. “They are killing our leaders and activists.
“In 1996, Awami League began their rule by killing Sumon and this time they have killed Nazrul.”
She said the government must stop 'political repression' immediately if it is to get cooperation from the opposition parties.
Selima Rahman, Mojibur Rahman Sarwar, Barkatullah Bulu, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anny, Mosharraf Hossain, among others, spoke at the rallies.
