14 injured in mob beating in city
At least 14 people were injured in a mob beating when locals found them breaking the lock of a bakery house in the city in the early hours of yesterday.
The injured were the men of Nuruzzaman who was a tenant of the bakery house at New Juraine area of Kadamtali.
Police said when Nuruzzaman and his people were trying to break the lock at around 1:00am, house owner Mahbubur Rahman Rubel raised hue and cry suspecting an attack by the robbers.
Locals thronged the spot and beat Nuruzzaman and his men including his son Rejaul Karim and his manager Ruhul Amin leaving them seriously injured.
Police produced eight people including Nuruzzaman before a court which sent them to jail.
Six injured were undergoing treatment at DMCH.
Police said Nuruzzaman ran a bakery named Meghna Food Industry at the house but he did not pay the rent of the house regularly.
Moreover, the duration of the deal between him and the house owner ended on December 31.
So on January 1, Rubel locked the house, Police said.
Nasima Begum, wife of Nuruzzaman, told The Daily Star at DMCH that her husband gave Tk 5 lakh to the house owner as security money while renting the house, but the money was not refunded.
