Media can use info from result sheets hung at polling centres
Authentic results of the December 29 national elections from the polling centers can be published in the media, Election Commission Secretary Humayun Kabir told journalists yesterday.
He informed that there would be 35,217 polling centers across the country for voting in the crucial general election.
After counting the ballots, the presiding officers at the polling stations will hang the result sheets outside “from where anybody can collect the information”, the secretary said in a meeting with senior journalists from print and electronic media at the EC secretariat.
The media men urged the Election Commission to provide equal facilities for both private and state-owned media in broadcasting the election results from the commission on the polling day.
They also suggested the commission to take decision for keeping open mobile phones across the country on the voting day to quickly disseminate the election news from the spots.
The EC officials said the commission will later take decision on this issue, which they said is related to the security measures.
