Bomb hurled at candidate's jeep

4-party's Shanto safe in Bhola-2

Unidentified criminals hurled a bomb at the jeep of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) leader Ashikur Rahman Shanto, four-party alliance candidate for Bhiola-2 constituency, on Sunday night. None was, however, injured in the incident.
The blast caused light damage to Shanto's jeep that was parked on the road in front of his election camp at Banglabazar in Daulatkhan upazila under Bhola district, sources said.
In this connection, Mafizul Islam, a BJP activist, lodged a case with Daulatkhan Police Station against 13 rival political activists yesterday, Bhola Superintendent of Police GM Azizur Rahman said.
Ashikur Rahman Shanto is the son of former BJP chairperson late Naziur Rahman Monju.
Shanto and his brother Andalib Rahman Partha at a press conference at their residence in Bhola town alleged that cadres of their rival Awami League candidate had brought out a procession with arms and they hurled the bomb to create panic among the voters of four-party alliance.
Partha is BJP candidate for Bhola-1.
Awami League candidate for Bhola-2, AL Presidium Member Toafael Ahmed in a press briefing said the incident was a stage-managed one.
Denying the allegation of his rival BJP candidate, he said there was no AL activist in and around the area at the time of incident.
If anybody wants to kill someone, he never hurls cocktail on a vacant parked vehicle, the AL leader said.
