Speakers at a book launching ceremony yesterday stressed the need for bringing pro-liberation forces to power to strengthen democracy and ensure good governance in the country.
They said people should be very cautious so that the anti-liberation forces cannot come to power in any way.
The launching ceremony of the book titled 'Sheikh Hasina in Jail' was held at the National Press Club in the city. The book has been edited by M Nazrul Islam.
Unveiling the cover of the book, Justice Golam Rabbani said justice and equity will not prevail in the society until a real democracy is established.
“The upcoming election is very significant as it will be a fight between truth and lie, and the book will act as a strong weapon in this battle,” he added.
The book consists of reports that were published in different newspapers before and after the arrest of Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina on July 16, 2007.
The book is a document of what happened in last two years in the politics of Bangladesh, said the speakers, adding that it will also work as a reference book for the journalists, researchers and political analysts to understand the political dilemma of the country.
“ After detaining Hasina for long two years, the military-backed caretaker government finally released her as they did not prove her involvement in any corruption. But who will give back the valuable two years that was lost from her life?” asked Prof Dr Atiur Rahman.
Swapan Dutta of Jyotsna Publications has published the book containing 36 pictures.
Former president of Dhaka University Teachers' Association Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Kamal Lohani, AZM Abdul Ali and Khandaker Mozammel Haque also spoke on the occasion.
