5th, 8th amendments have created religious bias
Speaker at a book launching programme yesterday said the 5th and 8th amendments to the constitution have created religious discrimination among the people, which have tremendously affected the spirit of secularism and ideology of liberation war.
The book titled 'Constitution Made Easy' written by Justice Gholam Rabbani is a pathfinder of the nation and it will assist new generation to understand the constitution, they added.
Former adviser to a caretaker government Sultana Kamal as the chief guest unveiled the cover of the book organised by Unnayan Shamannay with support from Manusher Jonno Foundation at the National Press Club in the city.
She said, “Our constitution was the direct outcome of liberation war. But the 5th amendment changed the preamble, while the 8th amendment inserted article 2(A) by which Islam was declared the state religion. These amendments have affected our secularism which was the main principal during the liberation war.”

Columnist Syed Abul Maksud said the national constitution is an incorrect book where the first sentence is erroneous.
