Public Admin society launched
A new organisation named 'Bangladesh Society for Public Administration (BASPA)' was launched with a commitment to help develop the skills of officials and employees working in government and non-government organisations.
The formal launching of the organisation was announced at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity yesterday.
President of the society and senior professor of Dhaka University Dr Mohammad Mohabbat Khan chaired the press conference.
Vice-president of BASPA Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah and Secretary General Dr M Abul Kashem Majumder were present on the occasion.
Highlighting different aspects of the organisation, Dr Mohabbat Khan said as an academic discipline and professional field, public administration is comparatively new in Bangladesh. But it has tremendous potentials to contribute to the development of the country in particular and society in general.
"The establishment of BASPA will fulfill, to a large extent, the long-felt demand of public administration scholars and practitioners in Bangladesh," he hoped.
He said BASPA will be a non-partisan and non-political forum intended to bring about excellence in public administration research and practice.
A 19-member full-fledged committee was formed at the press conference.
Besides, Dr Mohabbat Khan, Dr Kalimullah and Dr Abul Kashem Majumder, the other office-bearers are: vice-presidents - Sharful Alam, Molla Wahiduzzaman, Prof GM Shahidul Alam, Prof Shairul Mashreq, Dr Begum Rukhsana Mili and Anwara Begum; treasurer - Mohammad Abul Bashar Mia; joint secretaries general - Nusrat Jahan Chowdhury and Saber Ahmed Chowdhury.
Executive members are Ershadul Haque Bulbul, Firdous Zareen, Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Dr Mujibar Rahman, Zebunnesa, Nafisa Rashid and Asif Mohammad Shahan.
