I admire “Bangladesh Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation” (BAPMR)'s proposal (source: The Daily Star; 16-11-08) for establishing PMR Departments, thereby increasing the number of Physiotherapists. I very much agree to and request the respective authorities to implement the recommendations . Yes, all the Medical Colleges should have the department. The necessity of respective manpower production, that is, physiotherapists is increasing. It is essential for our country due to gradual increase in the number Road Traffic Accidents.
My disability happened in 1998. The serious road accident injured almost all parts of my body, including my head. Establishment of ICU in BSMMU saved my life. Nevertheless, disability has kept my survival worthless.
Fortunately, one of my Swiss friends came to Bangladesh for attending a WHO programme & came to visit me. She suggested I be treated in a hospital, Christian Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in India. Their service quality, high humanity, co-operation among departments, discipline, superior quality manpower etc. amazed me.
My suggestion is to send our student Physiotherapists & Nurses to the PMR department of the hospital for a certain period of their academic years. This will be very helpful for development of their professional skills.
