EU election observation team calls on Khaleda
A three-member delegation of European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission called on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at the party's Gulshan office yesterday and discussed election-related issues.
The team led by Alexander Graf Lambsdorff also met the members of foreign affairs advisory committee of BNP separately.
Later, Alexander told reporters that they explained the structure and mandate of the Mission in the meetings.
He, however, declined to disclose details of the meetings with Khaleda and the committee members.
"I will not disclose any details of our conversation as the meetings are treated as strictly confidential," he said.
Shamser Mobin Chowdhury, one of the foreign affairs advisers to BNP, said they have apprised the Mission members of the BNP's stand on emergency.
He said they told the team that BNP wants the government to lift emergency on December 11.
The committee members have also expressed their concern over Article 9 (E) of RPO and the decision of the Election Commission that private TV channels will not be allowed to announce election results, Shamser Mobin said.
The EU will deploy a 150-member team to monitor the elections, he added.
