CAs' role in financial transparency stressed
President Iajuddin Ahmed yesterday said chartered accountants could play a vital role in bringing financial transparency and accountability in both the private and public sectors in the country.
"I believe a chartered accountant (CA) can strengthen discipline in financial matters with their professional skill and expertise,” he said.
The President made the remark at the 18th convocation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.
He said CAs prepare financial statements, which are vital to preparing budgets and in organisational decision making processes.
"I am happy to know that the ICAB is dedicated to imparting quality and time-worthy education to the CA students," Iajuddin said.
It is a matter of satisfaction that the ICAB has been pivotal in bringing professionalism into accountancy in the country since its inception in 1973, he added.
Congratulating the new chartered accountants, the President urged them to be confident and to live up to the trust that people bestow upon them. He also asked them to demonstrate national interest above all.
A total of 53 students were awarded certificates while nine of them received certificates from the President for their brilliant results.
President of ICAB Humayun Kabir gave a welcome speech, while Vice Chancellor of North South University Prof Hafiz GA Siddiqi gave the convocation speech.
