Viable cultural platform needed
As part of the ongoing movement for a stronger cultural platform and demanding the reinstallation of the 'baul' sculptures at the airport roundabout, 'Shachetan Shilpi Shamaj' arranged a daylong concert at the Rabindra Sarobar, Dhanmondi on November 15.
With the slogan “Shilpo Charchar Mukto Paribesh Chai,” the cultural movement started nearly a month ago at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka (DU). Over the last month, the organisers have arranged several cultural programmes and processions at the DU premises and its adjacent areas.
This was the first event by the organisation outside the DU area and a huge audience gathered at Rabindra Sarobar to convey their support.
Noted and upcoming artistes and bands performed at the concert.
The concert started at around 3 pm. Artistes of the cultural organisation 'Shamogeet' performed a couple of songs including “Ghum.” Upcoming band Monoswarani performed “Aamar ekta chhata dorker.” Among other promising bands, Chirkut, Chitkar and Mahakal performed at the programme.
Artistes Kanak Aditya, Tanveer Alam Shawjeeb and Hyder Husyn delivered solo performances. Hyder Husyn rendered two songs including his hit number, “Bangladesh.” “Aula chuley” and “Bangladesh-er dhol” performed by Kanak Aditya and Shawjeeb respectively, got the audience charged.
Rock band Nemesis and folk-based band Lalon performed “Rongin dhulor majhey” and “Parey loye jao amaye” respectively.
Noted artiste Maqsood was the last performer at the concert. His band Maqsood O Dhaka performed three songs including a Lalon Geeti “Manush je rey khyapa rey tui.” Other renditions included Maqsood's political song “Ganotantra.”
