'Protect natural resources from foreign companies'
The convener of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Port, Engineer Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah called upon the people to strengthen their ongoing agitation for protection of natural resources from multinational companies and local agents.
He was addressing a meeting organised by the national committee at Shahid Abdur Rab Serniabat auditorium of Barisal Bar Association as chief guest yesterday.
Barisal district convener of the committee Prof Abdus Sattar presided.
Engineer Shahidullah said the politicians belonging to BNP, Awami League, Jatiya Party and Jamaat are looters. Previously, they were engaged in extortion and looting people's property. 'It is impossible to protect our mineral resources by leaders like them,' he said.
While addressing as special guest, national committee leader Anu Muhammad asked people to resist any move to lease out the country's natural resources and maritime blocks to foreign multinational companies. 'Previous governments tried to hand over ownership of our resources to foreign multinational companies'. 'We are yet to establish full ownership of our resources,' he said. He also criticised the role of former ministers including Saifur Rahman.
Among others, Principal Mizanur Rahman, Farhad Hossain, Abdur Rashid Khan, Hiron Kumar Das, S M A Khaleque and Prof Mustafizur Rahman addressed.
More than 100 participants from different walks of life participated.
