Depression intensifying in Bay
The depression over the west central Bay and adjoining southwest Bay moved slightly westwards and intensified into a deep depression yesterday
It was centered about 1,200-km southwest of Chittagong port, 1,135-km southwest of Cox's Bazar port and 1,080- km south-southwest of Mongla port, said a special Met Office bulletin.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west/northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 48-km of the depression centre is about 50 KPH rising to 60 KPH in gusts or squalls. Sea will remain moderate, it said.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist distance cautionary signal number one.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice. They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
