Three killed in city
Three people were killed in separate incidents in the city yesterday.
Of them, a listed criminal was stabbed to death by unknown criminals at East Dhulaipar of Kadamtoli while an unidentified youth, who was shot on Wednesday night at Motijheel, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of yesterday.
In another incident, extortionists beat a mason to death in Badda at 9:30pm.
The criminal was identified as Saikat Chandra Das, 25, son of Sumit Chandra Das of Lalmohon Das Lane under Sutrapur Police Station.
Kadamtoli police said Saikat was a wanted criminal by Sutrapur police in five criminal cases and was released from the jail on bail five days ago.
Police also suspected that Saikat might have been killed by his accomplices following an internal feud.
Witnesses said local people first spotted Saikat's body lying on Dhulaipar Bazar Road before the daybreak and informed the police who recovered it at around 6:30am and sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College for autopsy.
Police registered a murder case and are investigating into the motive behind the killing.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old unidentified youth, who was shot near AGB Colony at around 11:45pm, succumbed to his gunshot wounds at around 1:30am at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Motijheel police said the bullet-hit youth wearing jeans and a shirt was found lying on the roadside. He received bullets to his head, back and abdomen.
Police could not identify the youth and the killers and also ascertain the cause behind the murder.
In Badda, extortionists beat Iqbal Hossain Liton, 26, to death in front of his house at Shahjadpur as he refused to pay them Tk 10,000.
In another incident, a gang of muggers snatched a briefcase containing a huge amount of money from the owner of Star Money Changer after shooting him at Uttara at around 8:00pm.
Uttara police said the muggers attacked Mohammad Hasikul, 30, in front of his residence at Uttara Sector-14.
Hasikul with bullet wound in his chest was rushed to a local hospital.
