Thailand is keen to invest in Bangladesh's tourism and poultry sectors, said Thai Ambassador Chalermpol Thanchitt in Dhaka yesterday.
“Both the tourism and the poultry sector is growing fast in Bangladesh, but it needs more investment and technical know-how to achieve success. In this regard, Thailand can be a potential partner,” said Thanchitt.
Speaking at the launch of a month-long Thai trade exposition, "Made in Thailand 2008" at Bashundhara City in Dhaka, the envoy said Thailand is also interested in providing technical know-how for the poultry industry.
“The types of businesses in livestock, poultry and tourism in Bangladesh are quite similar to Thailand's, which would help us work together,” he added.
He said the fair would further enhance the bilateral trade relations between the two countries.
Thanchitt said Thai exports to Bangladesh currently stand at $500 million a year, which he hopes would double in five years.
The fair will be a month-long exposition that started on November 7.
Sixty local agents from different Thai companies are showcasing Thai products and services, including jewelry, furniture, auto spare parts, footwear, cosmetics, gift items and health services at the exposition.
Usa Wijarurn, director of the Thai Trade Centre, said the fair has been organised to set up a single platform to introduce all Thai products. Some Thai products are already popular among the local people.
The fair will organise training sessions on decoration and arrangement of flowers for women visitors on every Friday and Saturday. The fair will also organise a weekly Raffle Draw for visitors who purchase Thai products worth Tk 200 and above, said Wijarurn.
The fair will remain open from 10 am to 8pm until December 6 with an entry fee of Tk 10 per person.
