8 killed in road crashes
Eight people were killed and 75 others injured in separate road accidents yesterday.
Of them, five died in Sylhet, two in Gaibandha and one in Netrakona.
Staff correspondent in Sylhet reports: Five people, including 2 unidentified women, were killed and 40 others injured in a road accident that took place at Bharaut near Lalabazar on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway yesterday morning.
The accident took place at about 9:30am when a Dhaka-bound bus from Sylhet collided head-on with a local bus.
The dead were identified as bus helper Abdullah, 22, Mokoi Miah, 55, and Rozina, a housewife, and two unidentified women, aged about 45 and 40 years.
Among the injured, 18 were admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while the others received first aid.
Our correspondent in Gaibandha adds: Two people were killed and 35 others injured when a Gaibandha-bound passenger bus rammed a roadside tree on Palashbari-Gaibandha highway yesterday.
The bus also hit Montu Mia, 40, a timber trader, and Khaja Mia, 45, a rickshaw van puller, who died on the spot.
Ten of the injured were rushed to Gaibandha Hospital and four were sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
The driver and the helper managed to flee.
Our correspondent in Netrakona adds: A schoolboy was killed in a road accident on Netrakona-Kendua road at Noahati at Kendua in the district yesterday.
The dead was identified as Mansur Mortuza, 9, son of Ahmed Mortuza.
Mansur was a student of class three at Noahati Govt Primary School.
The accident took place at about 9:00am when a Kishoreganj-bound passenger bus knocked him down while he was going to school.
