Cultural programme against aggression on arts
Cultural activists of Sylhet arranged performances of Lalon songs and a human chain at the Central Shahid Minar in Sylhet city last Tuesday as a demonstration against removal of the sculpture "Achin Pakhi" from in front of the Zia International Airport.
Veteran cultural activists Hemchandra Bhattacharya and Barrister Arosh Ali, among others, spoke on the occasion. Nironjan Dey conducted the programme.
The speakers conveyed that there is no conflict between art and religion. Sculptures reflect the culture and traditions of a nation. It links the past with the future. Fundamentalist forces are misleading people with their 'hate speeches,' they expressed.
The organisations that participated at the programme are, Udichi, Sammilita Natya Parishad, Nazrul Academy, Charon Sangskritik Kendra, Prantik Parshad, Nabashikha Natya Dal, Natya Mancha, Shopan, Anandaloke, Sruti, Nandik Natyadal, Charubak, Theatre Sylhet, Natyalok, Khelaghar, Darpan Theatre, Theatre Bangla, Shikor, Mohona, Sylhet Lekhok Samity, Poets Club, Shishu Kishore Mela, Muktijoddha Sangsad, Pathakoli, Amra Muktijoddhar Santan, Muktiojoddha Juba Command, Chhatra Command, Paromita Sahitya Sangsad, Nrityasram and Chirontan.
