Draft final report on Ctg Ring Road today
In a latest development in the ongoing process for developing road network and flood protection embankments in the port city, the draft final report on Chittagong City Ring Road is being submitted today.
Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC)-appointed special assistance for project formulation (SAPROF) study team prepared the report on the ring road to be constructed diverting the city centre under three huge projects involving over Tk 3,000 crore.
JBIC would finance the construction of the road where Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) would be the implementing authority.
The draft report would be submitted to the concerned higher authorities at a meeting at housing and public works ministry in Dhaka today.
Housing and Public Works Adviser Maj Gen (retd) Ghulam Quader, Commerce Adviser Hossain Jillur Rahman and Law Adviser Hassan Ariff would be present at meeting.
A visiting high-powered four-member delegation, led by JBIC Chief Representative Yasuo Fujita, would also be present there.
CDA sources said if the draft report is okayed at the meeting, immediate steps would be taken to construct a 14.702-km road stretching from Patenga to Faujderhat under coastal road and embankment strengthening project, one of the three major components of the ring road.
Three feeder roads of a total length of 6.891 km would also be constructed to complete the missing links with internal roads of the city under the project involving $130 million (equivalent to Tk 910 crore), they added.
According to sources, the report also provides outline and estimated construction, land acquisition and resettlement costs for Karnaphuli river road and flood protection project, another component of the ring road project.
The CDA chairman said when implemented the ring road would expedite road communication with Chittagong Port, Shah Amanat International Airport and the CEPZ and thus accelerate the economic development.
“Moreover, alongside reducing traffic congestion in the city centre, the ring road would help save the city from tidal surges and flooding, particularly during the cyclonic storms,” he added.
